A graduate and later a dean, he championed education, racial uplift, and social justice.

After the war, Winn served multiple terms in the U.S. House of Representatives and held several key roles in South Carolina’s government. Step into the McCreight Suite, a beautifully appointed retreat featuring a plush king bed and private bath, named in honor of Colonel William McCreight—an early Winnsboro settler, War of 1812 militia leader, longtime town mayor, and founding elder of Sion Presbyterian Church. A passionate supporter of education and former president of the Mount Zion College Society, McCreight also commissioned Winnsboro’s iconic town clock, importing its works from Alsace, France, and overseeing their journey to town. His 1774 home, one of the oldest surviving frame structures in Fairfield County, still stands today, reflecting the enduring legacy of a man whose leadership helped shape the heartof the community.
